How does PPS ensure safety when people visit the school?
School safety if extremely important to Petal Primary School (PPS). Please read below to understand the process and procedures of how we keep students safe while they attend school.
- Visiting PPS
- Please make sure to have a scheduled appointment with the person(s) you wish to speak to before entering the building. Visitors park at the front of the school and go through the lobby.
- Anyone coming to PPS has to have a government issued form of identification. Each person will be asked to checkin and checkout at the front office. PPS will scan each ID with the Raptor Visitor System to ensure the people visiting the school are safe to come on campus. Your ID will be held while you are on campus so don’t forget to pick it up before you leave. This process keeps our campus safe and allows us to better serve you and our students.
What does the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) do to support the school?
PTO has a wonderful impact on our school and helps fundraise for things that our school simply would not be able to have or do without their support. They also create a great opportunity for parents/guardians to get involved at the school level. Please make sure you sign up to be a part of the PPS PTO this year. A form will be sent at the beginning of the year.
How do I volunteer at PPS?
How can I get information about what’s going on at PPS?
- Active Parent Accounts
- Every parent/guardian receives a login to our Active Parent system at registration. Please use your Active Parent account to check overall grades, attendance and discipline at your discretion.
- Petal Primary Facebook
- This allows the PPS community to receive reminders of upcoming events, updates and information about what is going on in school each week. Please follow us at @petalprimary.
- Monthly Calendar
- Each month you will receive a monthly calendar in your student's red folder. It will have all of the big calendar events for the month and it is a great thing to put on the refrigerator as a reminder of the things going on.
Testing
- NWEA is a universal screener that is given three times a year to support student growth and proficiency in the classroom. This test provides insights to help tailor instruction for each student.
- MKAS is the Mississippi Kindergarten Readiness Assessment which provides parents, teachers, and early childhood providers with a common understanding of what children know and are able to do upon entering school. The primary purpose of the MKAS is to improve the quality of classroom instruction and other services provided to students from birth to third grade.
