Kindergarten Roundup

Petal Primary School (PPS) will host its annual Kindergarten Roundup event Monday, April 27 – Thursday, April 30. The event offers incoming kindergartners a head start to the upcoming school year, by participating in a basic screener to evaluate their knowledge of letters, sounds, numbers and vocabulary, and to ensure there are no speech concerns. The PPS Kindergarten Roundup schedule is as follows:

  • April 27, 28, 29: Petal Preschool Roundup – PPS kindergarten teachers will screen at all preschools in Petal. Please check with your center for more details.
  • April 30: Roundup for all others – PPS kindergarten teachers will screen any students not enrolled in preschool or those enrolled in preschool outside of Petal. Screenings will take place at PPS by appointment only. A link to register for an appointment will be on the PPS website and social media accounts in March. Parents will need to provide the child's birth certificate and current immunization record. 

A Kindergarten Family Tour will be held on Tuesday, May 5 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. The purpose of this come-and-go event is to give incoming kindergartners and their families the chance to visit PPS before the new school year begins. The tours will be self-guided with teachers and staff available to answer questions. We will have representatives from SEMRHI, Child Nutrition, Center for Families and Children, Excel by 5, First Bridge, after school care providers, extra-curricular activities, and PTO here during the tour to share information and answer any questions you have about their services.

All students PK-12 grade will participate in registration this summer. During this registration, all families will need to provide residency documents, update contact information, birth certificate, current immunization record, and pay activity fees ($20). Parents will receive their teacher assignment during the summer registration. More information regarding these dates and times for summer registration will be shared in May via email. You will receive an Active Parent Code for online registration prior to in person registration.
